Fare Go Food Truck

  Joanna Josephs      Perth, Australia

Empowering refugee and asylum seeking people by sharing delicious cultural food.

The Centre for Asylum Seekers, Refugees and Detainees (CARAD) is an organization that represents a community of people who support the rights of asylum seekers, refugees and detainees in Western Australia. CARAD is innovative, flexible and dynamic in the ways in which it empowers people seeking asylum to connect with their community, live with dignity and advocate for their rights.

CARAD has been an independent organisation since it was established in 2000 and does not accept funding that would compromise our ability to support and advocate for the asylum seekers who need it most. At present CARAD is the only organisation providing ongoing casework and emergency relief (including emergency accommodation, utility bills, financial assistance, prescription medications, food and material aid) to asylum seekers who have no income (no access to Centrelink and no employment). CARAD is also proud to have more than 250 active volunteers providing support such as detention centre visiting, English language and homework help and social support.

One of the major obstacles that people we support face is getting a job. At CARAD we have learned, sometimes you need to be the change you want to see.

Fare Go is the first ever #SocEntAU food truck operated by people from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds in Perth. Serving up delicious cultural comfort food, Fare Go brings the opportunity to eat, share and connect while empowering refugees and asylum seekers through employment. We have bought the truck and need your help to get it rolling! Your support will give the Fare Go a fair go at a sustainable future..because every refugee deserves a chance!
